College and Career Advising

Navigating the college access journey can be complicated and confusing, particularly for students without quality advising resources. THEF supports the development of equitable advising tools, built based on research and feedback from students, to understand exactly what resources students need to successfully navigate their goals.

One new advising tool, My Texas Future (MTF), is single-stop portal designed to serve students at educational transition points, with an initial focus on the over 4 million working adults in Texas with “some college, no credential” (SCNC), a population that trends low-income, first-generation college-bound, and historically underrepresented. Student-centered and region-specific, MTF will provide many resources including real-time advising support, labor market information, and direct connections to institutional partners.

Efforts for the MTF tool to initially target adult learners align with the strategic plan’s goal to increase credential attainment for all working-age Texans, bolstering development of a workforce that meets the current and future needs of employers, and expands opportunities and earning potential for all Texans.
